Hi everyone. I adopted an axolotl and named him perwinkle. He is in a 55 gallon tank, and I was curious as to what kind of bowls/plates/container could I use to feed my axie his worms. Lately he has been accidentally eating sand instead of food, and I would like to get him a nice eating spot to reduce sand gobbling. Pictures would be really awesome. Thank you!

Sorry I don't have any pics but what I usually use or have used is shallow reptile bowls. Or you could look for something in your own kitchen. What I would look for is a shallow dish/bowl that is a least a couple of inches long.

Shallow reptile food bowls, a ceramic plant base (the plate part that the pot sits on,) a jar on its side to keep food from getting everywhere. I use the plant plate and my guy occasionally gets a bit of sand, but sand can be passed.

You can also use a saucer or I have seen some people use a glass jar. They put the food or worms in the back end of the jar so that it doesn't float away and then the axie can crawl in and eat.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
