Hi all. My I obtained my female marbled salamander a few years ago as an adult. She has always been a hearty eater on crickets and chopped earthworms mostly. For a bit over a week now I have been noticing her loosing weight and she isn't eating anymore. Is there anything that can be done right away before taking her to a vet? Thank you in advance.

I think I would take her to the vets if she were mine. If her conditions are clean and correct and there's nothing you can think of that could be stressing her out it could be any number of things.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
