Hey All,

I bought a trio of alpine newts recently. It's been more than 20 years since I kept amphibians. (I'm mainly a fish guy.) I had an eastern newt as a kid. Glad to be here.

Here is my setup (I do plan to add a lot of aquatic plants soon):

Hi, welcome to the site! Alpine newts are one of my favourites too. :)

Thank you! They are quite beautiful. I would love to keep easterns again if I could find captive bred ones. There's something about them.

Hi there and welcome.

I hope that we will get to see lots of pictures of your newts as they grow up.

Added a bunch of new plants and 12 White Cloud Mountain minnows.

I can't post multiple pictures in one post. Don't know why.

We've had our Alpines for a year now. Looking to add another type they are so enjoyable. Like you, I've always kept fish, but I really enjoy having these.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
