Hi I have an eastern newt that I found in the wild 5 days ago and I have been holding him in a tank with everything people told me to have in it, a pool, a feeding dish, hiding spots, everything. I've been feeding him mealworms but I don't know if he's been eating and I can't tell if he's okay because he just lays down curled up all the time. He's alive and moves when I touch him but I'm worried. What can I do? Are his actions normal? Help!!!

Meals aren't a god food for newts, especially smaller ones. Try fruit flies and chopped earthworms. Also, make sure the soil is slightly moist even if you have a water source available.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
