So I've had my 7" Wild Lotl for about 3 weeks now, He is really healthy and active

First thing I noticed when I first got him was that he only had 5 gills, 2 on his right, 3 on the left. There arent any stumps or signs that a 3rd set is growing on the right. Is it possible that he was born like this? Does that mean less oxygen? Would his offspring also maybe have a chance of only having 5 gills l

Not sure about the oxygen. But I've had an axie with 4 gills on the right side. They were always like that. He was just born that way. I don't think the offspring would have 5 gills.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
