Hi. I bought my little creature from a guy at the mall. And after doing research, found out he was nothing that i thought. Ive reserched how to care for the axolotls and the tiger salamander larva. But does anyone know which one mine is?

Okay. Evidentally i have no idea how to upload a picture. Im so sorry. I was gonna post it in the comments. And cant figure out how.

What color is he? Size? Tiger salamanders do not have a variety of color morphs like axolotls do. Tiger salamanders will also eventually morph, but they can take a while to do so

I dont know why it posted upside down.. Im sorry. Those are the best pics i could get.

It looks like a Tiger salamander larva to me.

Keep a close eye on the gills for shortening, once this starts you could lower the water and offer a land area for your tiger to climb onto.

What is the difference? Visibly I mean.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
