Hey guys,

I have a 4 year old Leucistic Axie and he has been on a diet of Blood worms since i got him but i was reading the forums and found that Earth worms are more nutritious for adults than Blood worms so i picked some up and fed him some. He seemed to swallow them down and was eating one happily once a day but yesterday i noticed he was trying to poop and it looked like a clump of blood worms were stuck.

I watched for a few hours and he didn't make much progress but a white milky liquid was coming out of the sides. I assumed that the earth worms were maybe a bit too big compared to the usual diet of blood worms and maybe he was constipated so i transferred him to the fridge.

I've never fridged him before so i just used regular tank water as it's not an infection issue and made sure the fridge isn't too cold ( currently reading 8 degree )

He has been in the fridge all day and i just checked the bowl and sure enough there were strands of poop and poop dust in there so i used a baster to remove them and topped up with some fridged fresh water. There are still worms hanging out his butt so i'm guessing he isn't done yet but what concerned me was that when i took the bowl out and checked he seems to have turned a shade of red.

Obviously his tentacles are red but they are a much darker shade than normal. Being Leucistic i can usually see red veins in his body and tail but they are much redder now and his tail has turned almost completely pink.

I freaked out at first thinking that i done something wrong and the water was too cold and he was getting cold burn but i double checked and the temp is still at 8.

Anyone else with a Leucisitc ever fridged and seen this happen? would just put my mind at rest a bit to know that this is common. I'm sure it makes sense scientifically but the little guy can't exactly tell me he's cold and doesn't like so i just thought i would ask the forum.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
