Best plants for breeding?

Hey there,
I've just set up a semi aquatic tank with a few feeder rosey red fish and am expecting to get my hands on some eastern newts in the next few weeks. I'd like to know if anyone has ideas for idea breeding conditions for the newts, and if there are any specific plants that would encourage it?
 
Welcome to the forum. I'm assuming the feeder fish are to help cycle the tank? Feeder fish as well as other fish sometimes carry a ton of different diseases, so if they look sickly I would probably just do a different method to cycle it. As far as breeding, a lot of people use anacharis, which is real hardy and easy to care for. some people also just cut strips of plastic and tie them together to make it seem like long plant leaves. Notophthalmus also seem to benefit from oak leaves in the water to help with fungus they're prone to. Hope this helps.
 
I'm always having good results with Eleodea. You don't need to plant them in the soil and they do a good job keeping your water in balance. The leaves are ideal for egg depositioning. I'm using alder cones instead of oak leaves, which seem to do the trick as well.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
