There is so much absolute **** on Instagram and other social media. There seems to be floating around the idea that "gravel causes impaction" is a myth, all because SOME people keep them successfully on gravel with no problems and the photos of x-rays are fake. Apparently it's worse to keep them together in a tank with the risk of having limbs bitten off than it is to keep them on gravel.

It annoys me so much because other people see that and start believing it and then they raise their axolotls on gravel.

This is the problem with some of the social media groups.
I do pop in and have a read of some and there are some that give out very dubious advice.
When ever you research anything, try and check your information with different resources. I would say the advice here is generally the safest, and I am not being biased here .

There is no need for this to be a rant thread Cloppy :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
