Hey everyone!
I'm fairly new to reptiles/amphibians, having only owed a pair of turtles, but I love critters of all kinds. I joined mostly to do research on axolotls as they are the next little guys I want to make a home for. I hope to become acquainted with the forum over the next few weeks as I work on a tank that will stay cool in the southern heat.

Anyway I guess I'll see y'all around!

Welcome! I'm new to this world as well - I've got three axolotls and will soon become the proud owner of two derpy tiger salamanders! Your profile pic made me picture a bearded dragon riding off... :p

I am also in Texas, more like Austin. Howdy back to you.

Hi I'm hoping to purchase a Leucistic axolotls soon!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
