Hi there,

My baby axolotls (<3inches) have stopped eating... Usually they eat a bunch whenever I offer them bloodworms.. Not sure what to do as they are getting skinnier... They are not even lunging for the worms like they used to do (they were vicious). Now whenever I place food near their mouths they don't move at all..

Please help

I would check the water parameters first. This can affect their appetite. Is there something in the tank that has changed that could be stressing them out? Have they been going to the bathroom regularly? It could be that. You could also try offering another kind of food; maybe chopped earthworms.

Was this ever resolved? I am having the same issue with my < 3 inch baby. :(

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
