My axolotl Mudkip has suddenly stopped eating. I thought maybe his tank just needed cleaned or something, but two day later, he still refuses to eat. It's been about four days since he's eaten. He has no visible symptoms or anything, he doesn't even seem to be losing any weight.I even physically poke him with his food in hopes to trigger an automatic reaction, but he just swims away. I feed him frozen bloodworms daily. He's five years old if that is important at all. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Has he been going to the bathroom still? If not a little fridge time will help that and he will eat again.

I haven't had this problem before, but it could be many reasons since axies are so sensitive. If the temperature is too high they may have problems with eating. If you have gravel, remove it immediately because gravel causes impaction. Try feeding different foods like earthworms because axies can get tired of one food. Hope it goes well for you.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
