Hi! i have two juvenile axolotls,Z, and P. z is absolutely healthy eating viciously and pooping in the same manner. p is even more vicious at both. but the thing is that p has a bump that is right behind both of his gills. it became more and more visible as it grew.... he doesn't show any signs of discomfort or stress, and has no problem swimming around. i do water changes every three days, spot clean twice or three times a day, keeping the nitrate at zero and keep the temperature at19c.
oh and sometimes when its eating bloodworms, one or two would kinda spill out from.. i dont know how to phrase it but from the lower chin area where the gills are and where his face and body meets..? it doesn't happen when its eating bigger or firmer foods like pellets or earthworms only blood worms escape sometimes. i dont know if this is related to it having a bump.. but I've never seen his tankmate do that. with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
