I just got a juvenile 3ish inch long golden albino axolotl 2 days ago. The first day I had him I fed him an earth worm about as long as he is and he ate it all, but he hasnt eaten all day yesterday or today.
Is this something I should be worried about?
I'm new to axolotls and I've read that young ones should be eating a lot more.
The temp in the tank is roughly 68 F and the Ph is a little high but I'm doing a water change soon

Often times when an axolotl is out into a new enclosure it can be very stressful to the animal, so it is usually normal for them to not eat at first.

Hi,

I just wanted to check, is your tank cycled? I was just concerned because you mentioned pH but not ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, which is usually a sign that someone isn't aware of tank cycling.

By the way I wouldn't be feeding a 3 inch long axolotl earthworms yet, hes too small. I would recommend bloodworms or brineshrimp, which come in frozen cubes.

Agreed! new tank ,stress, and worms prob too big right now! stick to frozen Jumbo blood worms....

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
