Hi everyone!

I've been a lurker on here for a few months, but I finally decided to register. I'm originally from Missouri, but I recently moved to the New York City metro area to attend graduate school. I also work in the mental health field.

I've had freshwater fish aquariums for most of my life, but I haven't had an aquarium for a few years. I've been planning to get an axolotl for the last few months and have been researching a lot. I just set up my aquarium to begin the cycling process and figured now was a good time to finally sign up for an account here!

Oh nice! I didn't know that! I'll have to look into that. Thanks.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
