Hey everyone!

I recently returned to college and for one of my classes I have to give an informative speech. I chose to give a speech about how to care for a fire bellied newt. I was wondering if any of you would be willing to help me a bit!

One of the big focuses in my speech is going to be about how newts, just like other house pets, are individuals who have their own likes and dislikes. For example, my newt has never had any interest in food except for the Tetra ReptoMin floating food sticks. He has never eaten any of the live or freeze dried foods I've offered him. Also, he likes it when acoustic guitar is played.

Another thing I was planning to bring up is the ban placed on importation and interstate transport of certain salamanders and newts.

I was just wondering if anyone had any really good articles on either of these subjects that they would recommend.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
