So I've had my lesser siren a few years. Her head was always pretty flat so I assumed female. Over the last 6 months I've had my doubts. The lump on her head isn't really pronounced like I've seen some males though. Is she just normal, over weight, or a male? I do feed her a little more than I should, I think, and she is pretty big at around 19 inches long and a couple inches around at the roundest part of her body.

The first picture is from months ago and the other is from today. Please pardon my slight algae bloom.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
