I'm in college and have Bear, my axolotl, with me on campus. I'm in a bit of a pickle however, as my Christmas break is 3 weeks long. The past few breaks, I've been able to get someone to feed him and keep an eye on his tank while I've been gone, but it seems like EVERYONE is going home for Christmas, so I have to figure out how to transport him home. I'll be flying back, as the drive is way too long. (The flight is an hour, while the drive is 9+hours.) But I've reached the conundrum of "Axolotl on a plane?"
So! Here I am asking, who has experience getting these cute little guys safely transported over a long distance? I likely won't be able to take his little travel tank with me on the plane, since TSA is a jerk about liquids. I've been debating on overnight air shipping him, but I want advice on how to ensure he's as safe as he possibly can be.
I should mention, he has a cycled tank at home that I'll be able to put him in as soon as he gets there, it's just getting him there that I'm having trouble with!
