Hello! I was just wondering If I put a little fountain, (7 in by 7in) that was a water fall, in my backyard, that if that would be an work for either attracting my local slender salamanders, or if I would be better off buying/ finding and relocating them to my backyard? I just want to know which method would be the best, and if they would be healthy in that environment. There are a lot of slugs, there are also river stones everywhere for them to hide under.
Thanks in advance!

Slender salamanders are fully terrestrial, so a waterfall or stream won't particularly attract them to your backyard.
I'd recommend putting piles of tree bark, logs, branches, moss, boards, or really anything like that on the ground. Slender salamanders are extremely common and abundant in some areas in CA, so if they are around, they'll probably end up under a branch or bark piece in your backyard if you put some down.

I should say however, if you are in a urban area, they may not be present. They usually are only in or adjacent to forest type habitats, though it can be sparse forest.
Where you are in CA will also change where you can find them, as different slender salamander species live in different habitats.

Hopefully you'll be able to find some! They are very cool little salamanders.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
