Hi guys,

I'm getting my first axolotl next week, but I didn't realize I needed to pre-cycle my tank! I had a 10 gallon tank i was originally going to put them in but I think I'll put him/her in my 65 gallon tank after it's done cycling. I've read I can put them in a plastic tub with daily water changes for awhile until my tank is cycled. Should I put a filter in the tub with it too? I was looking at this sponge filter, https://www.amazon.com/Hydro-IV-Spo...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=TYSJS6T863FKC8JZJEAW . Should I get 2 (one for the 65 tank and one for the tub)? Is there something more affordable for the smaller tub? Is just 1 sponge filter enough for a 65 gallon tank?

Also, can anyone recommend a good quiet air pump? They will be in my bedroom, so a set up that's not too noisy would be awesome :). I've also heard about powerheads, are those better than air pumps? Should I get a air stone? How do those work? Sorry for all the questions!! I'm reading about so many different options it's starting to confuse me.

Thanks!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
