Hello,

My question is sort of a mix between several of the last discussions, I apologize for the redundancy.

I am considering both starting a guppy pond and getting either composting worms or soldier fly larvae for vermicomposting and as feeders for my Axies. I was wondering if anyone had any experience feeding soldier fly larvae to them? From what I know the difference between the the two composting systems is the fly larvae produce more mass of larvae (and quicker). Whereas the worms produce more mass of compost. I have no idea if the fly larvae are dangerous for Axies and probably wouldn't have the time to individually de-head them. If feeding them live was not a good idea, Is lightly chopping them in a blender possible?

Ultimately thinking about this feeding project to lay the foundation for my future axolotl aquaculture project when I have bought land and my axies one day start to breed. I don't like the idea raising tilapia. So I'd rather just raise a cute endangered species. Does anyone else do this? would love to see pictures of your setup. Aloha

I think you will find that earthworms are much easier to culture than soldier flies.

I have never had a soldier fly colony before but am curious what makes you think that?
From what I have heard, they are fairly easy and mostly just don't do well in colder climates, which being in Hawaii I don't have to worry about.

The flies have to fly to breed.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
