Kaiser Newt lost larvae 1 week

Hello everyone.
My first set of Kaiser Newt eggs had hatched about a week ago. They were still swimming/lying on their sides and did not appear to have legs when I last looked at them early yesterday. I had them in a shallow (1.5 inch) dish from Chinese takeout, with a small airstone. It was covered, but obviously not well on account of the air hose. Today when I checked, I saw no larvae. Is it more probable that they died and disintegrated or gained the ability to climb up the hose or container walls and escape to their demise?
 
They died. Next time try a little bigger setup with some live plants like java moss. Throw in a couple dried oak leaves. Use seasoned tank water. Let it get a little dirty. Larvae like dirty looking water with little microorganisms living in it.
 
Thanks. I had the Java moss and pond water, but maybe it was still too clean.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
