when i was cleanin my tank i found my 5th nvv male dead. he had his stomach ripped out. something leads me to believe that this little guy was slaughtered by another male newt. he looked perfectly intact except for his stomach. he did not look skinny. i doubt it was a disease because i saw no sign of a disease. he also could have drowned because only when i moved an ornament did he float up. well my colony that used to be six is down to 4. the other died along time ago because it was not eating. well, now i will be able to see them all the time with their new bare tank.

Can a newt drown? Anyway, I am sad to hear this.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
