Introduction from a Newbie

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but i wanted to introduce myself since i'm new here. My name is john and i'm an engineer from maryland. When i was considerably younger i kept several sals (spotted and ringed ambystoma). back then, i was complete nut for these little beasties, going out almost every weekend to look for them, even doing salamander artwork! i've recently decided i'd like to become re-acquanted with my little friends. i came across this site in my search for a good place to find captive bred salamanders online. this looks like a very enthusiastic and tight knit bunch of folks. hopefully, i'll have the chance to get to know many of you better and share info! Thanks! John

Hello John and welcome!

You will thoroughly enjoy this site. This forum is full of wonderful, knowledgeable, and caring members.

Since your interest in sals has rekindled, this is the place to be.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
