Pebble butyl--any opinions?

Does anyone have any experience of using a product I discovered only this week--pebble butyl?

It's the normal, black pond liner with small pebbles--smooth pea gravel--bonded to it with what looks like silicon.

Apart from the obvious fact that some pebbles may break loose and cause impaction problems with aquatic newts, I'd be interested to hear if anyone has tried it. I presume the bonding is non toxic to at least fish and plants as it's made by
a reputable company.

The main problem as far as I can see is the price--26 quid a metre (GBP 26)!!

I don't have experience with that particular product but if you find that interesting our very own Jennifer recently did something similar. You can check out her DIY permanent pebble and sand substrates.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
