It sure saddens me to see these magnificent creatures caught from a single location by the dozens, if not hundreds, and then auctioned off on the Internet like this for less than 50 yen (45 U.S. cents) apiece

With all the overharvesting that goes on and the rampant use of pesticides in rice paddies, it's really no wonder that C.p are becoming scarcer and scarcer...

I doubt even human populations would be able to stand for very long to this kind of collecting.

Speaking of collecting humans, If anyone comes across a WC Homosapian, 90kg., that can paint, do lawn care, and small carpentry projects....I'm working on the set up now...equipped with cable TV...

Hey Mike,
I have not seen N. v. viridescens in the stores in a few years all I see are N. v. louisianensis.

Hi Mike,
At this time I would suspect at least part of the year Carolina is getting the Central Newt and they would still be able to sell them as red spotted newts.
(There web page has a picture of a broken-stripe newt).

It's things like this that make me grateful for the regulations Wisconsin has, low limits on herptiles, and you can only sell leopard frogs, mudpuppies, and easter tiger sals (and you need a $200 permit to do so.) There's still a good deal of poaching, though, especially on threatened species like wood turtles and blue racers, but the regulations are a very welcome protection while still allowing hobbists to have a small number of animals.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
