Newts and shrimp compatible?

I currently have a fire bellied newt by himself in a ten gallon and have a light designed to promote plant growth. Unfortunately, it seems to do wonders for algae growth as well.
I was thinking of picking up some amano shrimp to do a little algae picking, but seeing as they look quite a fair bit like a snack, I'm afraid my newt will eat them.
Has anyone housed the two together before?

Hi steph. What kind of light are you using. Use florecent light, cause that doesn't not promote algae growth as much. And also keep your tank away from direct sun light. I suggest you do 50% water change weekly and avoid overfeeding.
Use CO2 will help as well, and use plant food that do not promote algae growth. Once your plants are healthy, your algae will be much weaker.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
