Deformed axie hatchlings

Hi people!

Out of the 100 or so eggs i received from Andrew Baker I have had around 4 deformed ones, I wanted to know why they would have turned out like this. I have noticed that Ben has the same problems with his firbellys, but the only difference is that mine have eyes and I think a mouth.

I have them in a seperate container.

Just want to know peoples views..

It's probably genetic. It looks like fluid retention. An off the cuff guess would be major organ problems. 4 out of 100 isn't bad.

A few odd tadpoles is usually nothing to worry about especially if its only 4 out of 100.
If it were a genetic problem I would expect there to be a larger number affected.
My first guess would be that the eggs were affected by a fungus.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
