Oil Based Clay with Newts

Do you think it would be ok to use an oil based clay such as plasticine in a newt enclosure? It's non-toxic and I've eaten a ton of the stuff with no adverse effects so I can't see any real problems - I'm just looking for a waterproof material to create interesting tank ornaments.

ya know, ive been wondering the same thing. i wanted to experiment with backgrounds and stuff with non toxic clay. the stuff i was thinkin about isnt waterproof. its self hardening. i was figuring if it was shaped, allowed to harden, then put in a tank..... it would soak up water while retaining its shape and a good ammount of strength. i was thinking this would be a better medium for plants and mosses to grow on instead of what i have been doing. anyone have any opinion on this??

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
