id just like to announce my firebelled newt made it out of the tank, down a 2 foot drop off the table, onto the carpet and walked a good 15 meters until i found him. hes alive and well, just a little dry from his journey. glad he made it, but a note to everyone. the top was only open a crack, they are good climbers

unfortunately, this happens all to often. I've even had an experience where a juvenile firebelly climbed upside down to escape. glad to hear he's ok.

Happened to me once with N. viridescens. I found the poor fossils a few months later under my bed, rock hard and still supported by it's legs. I guess it died walking. Too bad.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
