Copes(?) Tree Frog

Found this little guy hanging out on my back porch today.

He's gone back to living in my Impatiens, eating lots of bugs!

I thought it was impossible to distinguish them from the "other" Hyla versicolor without biopsy. Or is that info obsolete?
Or maybe is the issue that you found him in a place where the ranges don't overlap?
 
*shrug* couldnt tell you (Hence the ? after Copes). I just thought he was cute.
 
You're right Robert, there's still no way to distinguish between them physically in the field
 
They are always a fun frog to find, and although they are common in Michigan, I rarely see them.
 
I found one once, in a backyard, across the street from St. John's Marsh. I took it across the street to the marsh, because the yard was pretty bare, and eventually it could have wound up in the road or something. I was totally geeked when I found it.

I like how they curl up, and chill like in your picture.
 
actually, if you get a chance to hear him call, H. versicolor and H. chrysocelis have completely different voices; i didn't realize this until it came up in class today and i immediately ran home to try and figure out which on mine is! no luck yet....

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
