has anyone successfully bread them? any tips?
right now, their tank is in a heated room, but i hear i should "hibernate" them, what tempature should i get it down to and for how long? then bring it to what tempature?

Heated room? What's the water temp right now? I've struggled for the past week trying to lower my temp in my tank.

Sorry, that's a bit off topic, but I just wanted to be sure before you try to breed that the conditions in the tank are appropriate.

Well the water is almost 68 now, but im moving anyways and i will accomodate any tempature required..

The main stimuli I've found for breeding them has been temperatures. I had the tank at 50-55 degrees for 3-4 weeks before the female started laying eggs.

Very complex answer, huh?

oh, so i shouldnt get it down to the 50's then bring it back up, she'll lay eggs in those tempatures?

you could try bringing it up to 60 or so. the raise in temperature could have triggered laying. I wasn't expecting them to breed, so I didn't pay much attention to exact temps

how many eggs does a female typically lay?
and how deep was your water?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
