I saw this newt or salamander at the fish shop. It was quiet big(2x the size of fire bellied newts) had a lightish brown top of its body and its belly looked as though it was like a fire bellys but it had like yellow spots aswell as red/orange. They labelled it as a Paddle Tail newt but it doesnt look anything like pics on the net.
SOrry that i cant get a better description but i cant remember 100%...anyone come across it? If so could it go in with fire bellied newts or would it eat them?

It would be hard to tell from that description, but is it possible that it may be Pachytriton brevipes or one of the Paramesotriton newts? You can find pictures for all of them at Caudata Culture, but you will need to scroll down to find Paramesotriton and Pachytriton

It might be a Spotted Tail Warty Newt. Ill have to look next time!Do they get big and can they be kept with fire bellys?

It probably is a Fuzhong Warty Newt for they are more common in the pet trade... I think.

I'm not sure about the size but should not be kept with your fire bellies.

From what I have heard Paramesotriton newts can be quite aggressive and will more than likely pick on your peaceful fire belly newts.

It is best not to keep two different newt species together, but these ones especially.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
