Hey everyone,
I recently bought 2 fire belly newts. They spend most of their time in a moss pit that I made, and have only eaten live pin head crickets (I've also offered frozen blood worms, frozen beef heart, and reptile pellets), about one cricket every 3-4 days. They seem very affectionate with each other... is this normal behavior for fire belly newts? Even if they are at opposite ends of the tank they find each other within minutes, and are always on top of each other, never apart. I'm pretty sure that I have one guy and one girl. Also, they seem very small as compared to photos that I've seen, maybe only 2 inches longs. Thanks.

They're probably acting normal. Mine are always side-by-side in their tank.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
