Any up on the law regarding palmate newts in England.A Local garden centre has been ordered to fill in one of its ponds (health and safety)and there's a breeding colony of palmate newts in there, also frogs.I've seen too many ponds filled in around this area over the years including ponds with great crested newts in residence

The only protection palmate newts have is that it's illegal to buy, sell or trade them. Same with common frogs.

Great crested newts are fully protected, it's illegal to disturb them in any way.

Thanks Caleb,i knew about Great crested newts but hoped Palmates also had some protection. The council seem very selective around here on how they uphold the law as regards great crested newts, If its to their benefit they tend to turn a blind eye.Its not just the filling in of ponds i am totally against a lot of ponds where crested newts breed around here are being stocked with fish, as you may know crested newt tadpoles tend to stay in mid water where they are easily picked off some have even been stocked with the odd Pike which will eat the adults.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
