I have 2 Lesser sirens that appear to have ick..one of them has white fluffy stuff on it's gill and one has a fluffy patch on it's tail area.
One of my Amphiuma has some of it on it's toes.

How do I treat this?
Thanks,
Lou

If it is fluffy it isn't ick. It is a fungal infection. For a starter increase the salt content of the water with aquarium salt or use a salt bath as outlined here http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/salt.shtml These infections are typically the result of wounds.

If the infection is severe you may want to consult with a vet.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
