I've found that if the water is cloudy, that could mean one of several things:

- it is the dust from the rocks (if you're using new rocks). If so, wash the rocks out again and the water might clear up

- for some reason, I've found that cloudy water happens more often when using warm or hot water. The colder the water is, the less cloudy it is. I'm not entirely sure why, but I would guess it might have something to do with the heat making particles in the water move more often/faster making the water more cloudy, while cold temperature generally slows particles down

- there could be mineral deposits or other things in the water if you're using tap water. You could let the filter run for a while to clear everything out

Good luck!

When I lived in Virginia, every new tank I set up would go cloudy during the first few days, then it would gradually turn clear after a few weeks. There was even a bit of "fluff" that would deposit from the water. I never figured out what caused this, and it did not happen if I started with pre-cycled substrates or filters. It did not seem to hurt the animals.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
