recently i found that my newt has a large growth under his chin and refuses to eat anything, i have been unable to find any information on his dilema, all the sites i were able to find were on bloating and its not his body that is bloating its the area under his chin. what i can do to save his life, any information would be greatly appreciated.

This also happened to my JFBN, i was told it could be mouthrot.
if it is mouthrot ive been told it can be treated with melafix.

I have found a successful treatment for this ailment. Use an eyedropper and drop some salty water into the mouth. A few drops should be enough. You may need to repeat the treatment daily.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
