Help! The newt I took home (of the red eft variety) laid eggs, five of which hatched three weeks ago. Last week one died, and then for the last two nights one died in the middle of the night, so I only have two left. How can I keep these last two alive?

was it a red spotted in the eft stage or after it has morphed from eft stage into aquatic stage?

In the aquatic stage. I'm trying to keep the last two babies alive. I got some pond water for them which I thought would help, but that's when they started dying, so I'm going back to filtered water. I'm also going to go get some brine shrimp right now. Any suggestions?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
