What kind of tank is suitable for the spotted salamander? What do I put in it.

Reid, for future reference, you should research these things before getting the animal.

Spotted salamanders are very secretive and prefer to spend their time underground. A tank set up with moist top soil, various terrestrial plants (I like pothos, but lots of things work), pieces of wood to hide under, and maybe leaf-litter, if you have some on hand.

A general ambystomatidae caresheet can be found here http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Ambystoma/A_tigrinum.shtml Spotted sals have similar requirements.

Also, spotteds prefer cool temperatures, so be sure the tank doesn't get overheated.

Thanks for the help. I had already set up a tank. I just wanted to know what kind of things are good to put in the tank.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
