How much food and how often will a 3 or so inch newt eat. I just started feeding my 3 newts night crawlers, how much worm should each one eat. Also I am suspicious one of my three newts has a nematoad. I never see him eat, and he is a lot skinnier than the other two newts. The newt in question is a male red spotted newt, so is prone to nematoads. I tried feeding the newt in question an earthworm. The newt bite the earthworm and started to swallow it, but when the worm got to the back of the newt's throat, he spit it out.His ribs are visible in the right light, is that too thin? Will he infect the rest of my newts?

You should quarantine him just in case. I would get some live blackworms. I get them at 2 of my local petshops. If you have a petworld around you, you should be able to get them there. Otherthan that, newts should eat every 2-3 days.

How much nightcrawler do the healthy ones eat every 2-3 days?

I'd say a half to 3/4, depending on the newt and size of the worm.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
