Tiger Salamander Feeding

Hello everyone,

How long can a fat tiger salamander go without food? This particular animal has gone without for 3 weeks before (he would not surface) and regularly goes for a week between feedings. Could he go a month without food? (I'm going out of town, and have someone willing to keep his aquarium wet, but she will not handle insects)

Thanks

I think it would be fine, provided you have a way to keep it cool. Warmer temps mean higher metabolic rate and more need for food. You could throw in a few small earthworms that would live in terrarium and the tiger could dig for them if it got hungry.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
