Bubbles

I recently aquired an air pump and bubble stone.

Now we all know any healthy newt will try and eat anything interesting that moves in front of them and I was just wondering if anyone has caught their newt trying to attack the occasional passing air bubble.
I caught my fuzhong called Davenewt doing this earlier and found it hilarious. The look of confusion on his face when he just couldn't catch them was priceless.

My axolotls bite at the bubbles too. I had to make sure the actual bubble head piece (whatever it's called) was bigger than both a breadbox and an axolotl's mouth. The funniest thing is that when they have bitten too many bubbles, they get full of air and have to float around awhile before they can sink again. And, if they think dinner is overdue they are especially bitey...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
