I give them 1/4 to 1/2 a cube of bloodowmr every other day for my 2 newts. They eat like lil pigs, get all fat for a day and then by the newt dayish or the day that i have to feed them again they go all skinyish
AM i not feeding them enough or is it that they poop and the filter sucks it all up so i cant see it?

This sometimes happens with me when one of the newts gives up on a worm and doesn't want to eat anymore.

is it possible that there is some parasite in the newts? do you have a loto f hiding spot or substrate. Maybe the poop just hidden from view.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
