just wondering

Mosquito larvae would be a fine food for newts, but there are a few things to consider.

There is always the risk of introducing pesticides or other chemicals when you use a wild caught food source. Keep that in mind as the water you'd get the mosquito larvae out of will probably not be good quality.

The other thing to consider is that the larvae could undergo metamorphosis and become adult mosquitoes with all the problems they cause.

Unless you are sure that the mosquito larvae are quite young and that they are free of chemicals, I would just avoid them.

Every time I have tried this I get mosquitos in my house no matter what kind of lid I use. Also the mosquito larvae grow rather quickly and the large ones are quite big.

u can cultivate ur own to avoid the risk of chemicals etc, i ended up with loads by accident when i left a dish of stagnent water in the garden, there was hundreds of larvae in it when i emptied it, it was there for a long time tho, dark green almost black and it stank

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
