I just bought the 2 Fluval 201's for my two tanks. I am planning on having a pretty lush plant setup (if I can get it all balanced). The tank setup they have at the aquarium store near me has a Cascade filter and on the intake tube they have hooked up a bottle (2 liter, pop bottle) of yest & sugar (which we know makes CO2).

Well I am planning on doing the same setup with my Fluval 104's. However I am wondering how I will know when there is enough CO2 in the water and how much sugar & yest to mix in the 2 liter bottles.

My next question is about plants. I am trying to get some pretty neat plants and light isnt a problem. The question I have is what neat plants live in the cooler water (70F) that the newts like? If you could give me common names as well as latin name that would help alot.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
