http://www.birdsinalaska.org/class/living_science_center/images/fbn_underside.gif that looks exactly like mine, but they say they're called fire-bellied... thats actually besides the point tho.. one of my newts (Summer) has weird spots on her</font></font>
.. they arent white, they are just slighty discoloured.. around the neck. i looks almost reddish.. maybe more brown.. is this normal at all? has anyone seen this before, i couldnt find another post where it was like this... is she going to be okay?

I doubt that what you bought were Red-bellied newts (Taricha rivularis) which can be seen here:
http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Taricha/T_rivularis.shtml
Likely, the pet store sold you Cynops orientalis. It's possible you could have been sold a C. pyrrohgaster, but orientalis is more likely. I'm not sure about the spots. Can you take pictures and post them? You know what they say- a pictures worth a 1,000 words. It would be much easier to identify your species and those spots with a couple of nice, detailed pics.

Heather, if your newts look like the one in the picture, then they are Cynops Orientalis (Chinese Fire Belly) newts. As far as the different color spots - ??? As Jeff said, posting a pic of your newts is necessary for any answers.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
