I purchased a Chinese Fire Belly newt a couple to a few months ago. It is housed with a California newt in a 40 Gallon paludarium (1/4 land).
Well today I noticed that there was a newt larvae, it looks to be a CFB.
I collected some daphnia from a nearby lake, and am currently starting a batch of brine shrimp.
Is this adequate food? Was this newt pregnant when I got her? Or could there have been inter-breeding?
I was not planning on this at all. I have found about 6-8 Larvae at a time, but there are tons of places to hide among live plants and driftwood so there could be many more.
Any suggestions on food for the young, or how she got pregnant, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
