Just wondering. If so what species is best: (lesser, greater, dwarfs, [Rio Grande])?

Does anyone have any expirience with them because if so I would like to know the temp that you keep them at.

Thanks!

Oh pics of your siren (regardless of species) would be sweet!

I've kept lesser, greater and dwarfs, loved them all. They all seemed to do just fine in the 18-22C range (basically standard room temperature). I don't quite understand the question "which is best". Best what? Each had their draws and drawbacks. Siren lacertina are wonderfully active, but can also get aggressive with one another. A good, spaceous aquarium with lots of hides and floating plants worked well with me. A secure top is a must. Siren intermedia is pretty similar, aquarium doesn't need to be as large. Somewhat more flightier than S.lacertina. Pseudobranchus sp. didn't tend to be as active, would often burrow in the sand substrate. Seemed to prefer being housed in groups as opposed to alone. Unfortunately, they didn't survive their "caretakers" while I was conducting my fieldwork so I don't have any photos of them.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
