I'm getting a CFBN tomorrow and I know the temp shouldnt go past 70 degrees. But I have a storage room where I keep my vivarium and I can lower the temo to as low as 50 degrees. I wanna know what temp I should keep him at and at what temp does he start to get cold and slugish?

Yeah, they could actually survive to just above freezing. I've personally never taken them below 46-48F, but I know a few people who have (like Steve now). It hasn't been a problem. At 48F, they still eat and are active, just slightly slower.

For winter, try to keep him in the high 40s-50s then raise to the 60s for summer. Those are my target temps and the newts cycle and breed well like that.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
